Story & World. Time travel is a concept that I find fascinating and that I’m drawn to time and again, though I find thinking on it too hard makes my brain hurt – alterations to the time line, paradoxes and the completely over-my-head theories. Though McEntire does a fairly good job of keeping the technical aspect of time travel simple, there were still aspects of this story that I had some trouble wrapping my head around.

There were also many elements of this story that felt pieced together from other things I’ve read or seen – just vibes that reminded me strongly of other stories. These things didn’t make it unenjoyable, one just hopes for a little more originality, I suppose.

Characters.
Emerson. McEntire’s character development, particularly in regard to Emerson, is fantastic. So many protagonists today have that snarky, sarcastic gene. A generous amount of sass is practically a requirement for any leading lady, yet while Emerson is all of these things she adds something far more uncommon – a dynamite sense of humor. Emerson doesn’t employ any kind of verbal filter, and as a result her sharp comebacks and quick quips are often extremely witty, pointed and hilarious. Another thing I really appreciate about her character is what a volatile balance of confidence, decisiveness, and toughness she is, while also being fragile, vulnerable, and uncertain.

The Boy Toys. While I found Michael tantalizingly intriguing at first, he became somewhat one-dimensional as the story progressed. Kaleb, on the other hand… Now HE is all kinds of long-term intriguing and appealingly broken.

“Baby, just say yes.” Ok… let’s talk about connection. The romance in Hourglass was a bit… strange? I’m a little over the “instant connection” thing, the “I can’t be with you for reasons you’re not allowed to know about” thing, and the love triangle-ish thing was a little… sudden? Weird? Something. I just can’t help but wonder, when your ability to choose is stripped from you by some kind of super-human, chemical reaction, is it really “like”… or “love”… or something in between? Barring all sci-fi weirdness, would there have been a different outcome? There are at least two more books. Perhaps this will be addressed later on?

Overall. Though Hourglass didn’t blow me away like I’d hoped, ultimately I’m still drawn to the whole time travel concept McEntire’s created and to Emerson, and I’m extremely curious as to where she’s is going to take the story next.

Emerson Cole sees dead people. She doesn't know how or why but all she wants is to be normal. Then she meets Michael Weaver and he has sees things too. Her world is turned upside down as she learns that she isn't actually seeing ghosts and that she isn't alone in this world of special abilities.

I loved Emerson. She built this wall up around her and she uses sarcasm as a way to keep it in place. I loved her snarky attitude and the way she never let anyone tell her what to do. She always breaks the rules and beats to her own drum. Michael is your typical white knight who wants to help Emerson and needs her help too. He wants to keep her safe and protect her. He is sweet and charming and handsome.

At first, I didn't think I was going to like this book because I had a hard time getting into it in the beginning. However, when I got to chapter 5, my interest was peaked and I couldn't put it down after that. I just loved the way that Emerson responded to the information she learned about herself and how she rebelled against everyone when they tried to tell her what to do. I really started to like the book even more when they introduced Kaleb. I loved his brazen attitude and his rebellious personality. The interaction between him and Emerson was entertaining. Even though the book started off slowly, the intrigue and action progressed well and I was definitely surprised by some of the twists and I ended up really liking this book in the end and looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
The cover of this book is so neat looking. It is unlike anything I have ever seen. I believe that the description gives a good idea of what the book is about. With maybe some things left out. But, that doesn't take away from the book but adds to it.

This book started out so well! With witty banter and wonderful characters.

Yet as it went on it just got boring. It lost my attention and didn't do anything to grab it back. It just kept dragging on and on.

I did finish the book and towards the end it started pulling me back in.

I was disappointed a little that the book just went on and on and on. I don't like books that drag. Authors/Editors could cut it down and take out some of the nonessential crap and make such a better book with fewer pages.

I did enjoy the ending of the book. I think it ended with a somewhat cliff hanger but not such a big one that you would be pulling your hair out until book 2 came out. So thats very good.

There are so many books out there about time travel. I LOVE that in this book it takes more than one person to do it. I have never liked that books like Tempest, and tv shows like the Time Travelers Wife. Where they can travel alone without help. It never set very right with me. (I don't know why- Maybe I was a traveler in another life)

This book again is about Time Travel but also toward the end it turns into a love trio. I think that could have been skipped all together. With the connection that Em and Michael have trying to add another person to that love is just plain stupid if you ask me. I understand why it was added. But it could have been ended before the next book. It added an extra element that it just didn't need.

Ok Characters! I LOVE EM! She is awesome! She will kick your ass if you mess with her or her family! I love that. You don't get a lot of female characters that know how to use what they have. With Em its martial arts and yes she kicks some ass.

Michael he is a great male lead. I do think that he was kinda of stupid towards the end of the book. But it all works out so thats fine. But again it kind of adds an extra twist that the book just didn't need.

So all in all I did like the book. I think that this is one of those books that could go either way.
So Ill give it two rating.
