Adventures Of Little Yaga and Her Friends LB O'Milla Books
A traditional folk tale plot, virtues (fight of good and evil) and characters intermingled with modern teens and life style. I enjoyed not only the plot which is interesting and alive, not only characters that are vivid and colorful, but also sharp eye of the author that constantly notices how similar our recent innovations to centuries-old dreams and fantasies. And the most important, it's a good reading.Tags : Amazon.com: Adventures Of Little Yaga and Her Friends (9781540730282): L.B. O'Milla: Books,L.B. Adventures Of Little Yaga and Her Friends LB O'Milla Books Reviews
Here is a fun and imaginative book for kids that are in middle school. One word of caution it is over 400 pages so I don't think little ones would really stay with this story unless they are advanced readers. Some parts are a little scary, so I think some young children might get nightmares from this story. The story is about Little Yaga who lives with her old grandmother in a house on top of a chicken leg deep in an enchanted forest. For Little Yaga she is different for all the other forest kids who have a skinny long leg bone for a leg, Little Yaga has two regular human legs this makes her feel like an outcast among her friends at school. One day Little Yaga meets a lost human girl, Ashley, her age in the forest. Little Yaga helps this girl home and makes friends with her is invited to her birthday party the following week. Little Yaga decides to bring her best friend Kikimra from the enchanted forest to the party. At the party, she meets Ashley's brother and a few of her friends and his. Little Yaga and her best friend are amazed at all the magical things that the humans have for example; an iPhone, a microwave oven that cooks food quickly, and a screen that will transport you to a different place on the screen. As Little Yaga and her Kikimra leave the party to go home Ashley runs up to them to give them the clothes they changed out of for the party. Little Yaga and Kikimra are at the entrance to the enchanted forest to go home when all of them disappear. Scaggard the Immortal kidnaps Ashley. Scaggard the Immortal is the ruler of the enchanted forest who needs human energy to keep him immortal. Little Yaga who likes Ashley decides she is going to help her escape from Scaggard. Little Yaga gathers her friends to help save Ashley. As Little Yaga and her friends are traveling they run into a group of human boys that are looking for Ashley too. Together with Little Yaga and her human friends' journey through the enchanted forest they will come across many usual creatures in many odd shapes and forms that will try to impede them in their journey. With Little Yaga and Kikimra magical help and the human friend's tenacity as they overcome the Scaggard army of weird creatures, as they make their way to Scaggard castle to save Ashley. Will they get there in time to save Ashley life as they are delayed over and over again with all the opticals in their path that they have to figure out so they can get past them and to Scaggard castle?
Older kids will enjoy this unique story by L. B. O'Milla with Russian fables and mythology.

What an absolutely delightful fantasy adventure story! This book tells the story of Little Yaga and her friends, both old and new, Forester and Human, as they fight together to bring down Scraggard, the evil (but not so smart) ruler of the Forest, who is holding Little Yaga's new human friend Ashley hostage to sap all her energy for his own. It's a classic tale of good vs. evil and how the power of friendship and love can prevail. It was a quick read, but each character was still well developed and I loved that they each had their own quirks and mannerisms. And while it's not necessarily realistic, I enjoyed that Stanley had a change of heart at the end and realized the error of his ways. I especially enjoyed the mystery of who Eric and his mother really are - I guessed it as a possibility early on, but I loved the big reveal at the end when the whole gang was together in the Hut.
One of my favorite underlying themes of the story was how the friends constantly compared their differences and how strange the humans or foresters were, but ultimately their differences became their strengths as they worked together to utilize all of their powers for good.
This story is written for young adults, but I would still recommend it to adults as it's such a fun, quick read. And I'll definitely be recommending it to my grade school aged niece and nephew!
Just finish reading- was an enjoyable read which brought new life to the old Russian fairytales. A debut work of which the author should be most proud.
I am completely delighted with the subtle humor, colorful and juicy language of this book. The attempt to interpret the fairy tales and traditions of one country in another is like trying to embroider patterns in cloth that were originally carved in wood. I very much recommend this book.
Great read. Entertaining, exciting and fun!
I truly enjoyed reading this fantasy! The imagination of the author who uses well known Russian folk tale's characters and objects but gives them totally new spin is absolutely thrilling! It is amusing how she compares the magic powers of the forest inhabitants with the technological 'powers' we use in our everyday lives. This book is good spirited, humorous and a delightful read for children and adults alike.
Highly recommend! This book is so much fun to read. It is witty, funny, has many twists and turns that make you want to keep reading. It is a very entertaining read for all ages. My 15 y.o. daughter enjoyed it so much that, as soon as she had finished it, she asked if there was a sequel available to continue. I sure hope that there will be one soon.
